Have you ever been in a situation with another person where if you were in their shoes and he/she was in yours, you would have acted a completely different way?
Yeah... I have too, and most of the time it's not fun. It's kinda like: "If I were him I would have already done that!"
I feel like most of those feelings that we get are deeply rooted in our own selfish desires and expectations. When we say to ourselves "if I were her..." or "if I were him," it really is internalizing and expressing what we wish would happen to us. Think about it. Why else would you say that to yourself? It's because you want THAT situation to be true, the one that you've hypothetically formulated in your head. Trust me, that's why. It may seem pretty obvious to state, but it's true. And of course, it usually can never be that way because of several reasons.
1. High expectations, maybe sometimes too high.
2. Nobody is going to know what everybody else wants.
3. It's impossible to know someone's every thought and feeling.
4. No matter what you do, you will not be able to please everyone.
But wouldn't it be nice if the above weren't true? But then again, there's no way I'd want someone, or more than one person, to know my every single thought and feeling. That would be creepy... and potentially embarrassing.
