The Sweaters of All Sweaters

I have a Christmas party to go to tomorrow evening, and one that I'm very excited about. As many are during this season, the party is a Christmas sweater party. If you don't know what that means, click here, here, and here. Aren't they beauties? (And the guy in the last picture... oooo, isn't he hot? ummm, no.)

Well, these parties are just fun because people wear these ridiculous sweaters that no one should wear elsewhere in everyday fashion (but sadly and unfortunately do at this time of year), and everyone drinks and is merry. It's a perfectly acceptable time to wear these beautiful creations of colored yarn and sequins and jewels.

But I want to talk about those that wear these pieces of fashion outside of the designated "Christmas sweater" parties. I can see where these sweaters might have been semi-ok to wear in the 80's or 90's, because those were the times. But it's almost 2010... a decade into 21st century. These Christmas sweaters are not ok for companies to still be making!! And the fact that they still make them means that women (and a few men) are wearing them! Why? Whyyy? WHYYY? I just don't understand. Is it just some tradition that I won't get on board with, or do people really think they look good? Maybe it's that I'll have to wait until I enter my 40s/50s/60s and then I'll feel differently. Maybe I'll need to have an older/grown child as well.

When I was much younger, back in the early 90s, I(/my dad and I) bought my Mom a black pull-over sweater with a gingerbread house and gingerbread people on it. It was complete with sequins, jewels, beads... I mean, you name it and it was probably on it. I thought it looked good on my Mom... back then. I was little, again, those were the times, and I hadn't yet developed my wonderful fashion sense. I wouldn't allow her to wear it today... if she still had it, and she doesn't.

So I'm gonna go ahead and say it - the Christmas sweaters are ugly! U-G-L-Y! And they ain't got no alibi.

With that said, I can't wait to wear one tomorrow night. Maybe I'll remember to take some pics and post them here at a later date!

**I would like to say that I deeply apologize if your mother, aunt, sister, grandma, etc. wears these kinds of sweaters and if what I've said offended you. I guess I would also like to say that I have seen some, and I mean SOME, Christmas sweaters that are ok and fashionably acceptable. If someone in your family or someone you know does wear these sweaters, I am positive they fall into that category of fashionable.

ONE WEEK TILL CHRISTMAS! YIPPEE!!
